12” x 16” — Oil $2,300

The golden hour is that special time of day when everything magical happens. Setting up my easel, well before sunset, laying out my oil paints, the colors I feel I’ll need to capture the fleeting light, and being ready to paint, quickly. Then the magic begins, those perfect five or ten moments as the day comes to a beautiful close. The excitement begins and I begin mixing the colors I’m seeing, and quickly, very quickly, abstractly, I am designing, using the nuances of colors before me. Later, back in the studio, this quick color study will be crucial in remembering those magical moments imbued with the nuances of fleeting light. From this abstract color study, later, in my studio, where I have the time to slow down, I recreated Magic Hour while, in my memory, I could feel the excitement of being there all over again. It all comes alive.
