NI ZHU VENESSA IN PLEIN AIR

I painted Venessa in a courtyard in Carmel-by-the Sea, California. She sat in the shade of a tree, the sun occasionally went through the branches and illuminated her hat, and yet light was everywhere. I observed the light and shadow situation and tried to capture her form and gesture. When I got back to my studio, I continued to work on it based on my overall impression of her and my feelings that day, paying more attention to color choices and brushstrokes. I am happy that I managed to capture her col orful character and her pride.

Changing her career path, she honed her passion for the media by attending classes at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and taking workshops with master painters, ultimately earning a Master of Fine Arts degree in 2020. She is a signature member of Oil Painters of America and American Impressionist Society, and represented by Reinert Fine Art in Charleston, SC and Waterhouse Gallery in Santa Barbara, CA.
