16” x 20” — Oil $2,950

Last year, following the Laguna Plein Air Invitational, I took a long road trip along the coast of California. It was a glorious week of sketching, photographing, and painting the coastline. This harbor scene really caught my eye and I knew I had to paint it. I loved the dark shapes against the illuminated sky and water. The moisture in the sea air tends to diffuse and scatter the sunset in a most magical way. There’s something both comforting and nostalgic about this time of day that I hoped to capture in Safe Harbor.
