LAURI KETCHUM PARCHED
One early spring morning, I drove through the grounds of the Pawnee Bill Ranch, hoping to snap some photos of their Longhorn cattle and bison. Oklahoma had been through a particularly long, hard winter that year, and the animals were a little worse for wear. I found this loner, lumbering slowly up the dry, cracked road, head hung low, but plodding steadily on. To me, she personified the general feeling of survival, and the hope of better days ahead. Both inspiration and subject for this piece, she reminds me to always persevere; that life’s road is one with many cracks, that my progress may seem painfully slow at times, but, with purpose intact, I will find that greener grass.
