JANICE WRIGHT VIOLET IRISES

Lately, I have been creating a lot of artwork outdoors. Like many artists before me, I’ve discovered that there is much to learn from the process of painting plein air. Painting in nature forces the artist to find the essence of the subject matter and to be more decisive with each stroke. These purple irises, divas of the flower world, were painted on site in the spring at their peak glory.

An Alberta College graduate, Wright worked as a graphic designer for many years. A one-year residence in Europe provided her the opportunity to see paintings that she had only seen in art history books. Profoundly moved, she began to paint in earnest. An avid hiker, she draws upon the landscape around her for inspriation. Janice paints in the studio and en plein air.
