Can’t you just hear the gentle splashing of that water in the fountain? Whenever I visit a California Mission I get a feeling of calmness and peace in the gardens and courtyards. This painting is loosely based on the courtyard of Mission San Miguel Archangel in central California. I paint with a palette knife which is wonderful for interpreting the textures of adobe and old brick.

There is a quietness in the desert only broken by the sound of the wind and the call of a hawk. This scene is an interpretation of the many little trails in the Saguaro National Park in Tucson, Arizona. I have developed a unique palette of colors especially for the desert, and I really enjoy using them. I feel that my palette knife impressionist style nicely interprets the rugged beauty of the desert.
