BRENDA MORGAN BIG HORN

12” x 16” — Oil $2,000

While visiting Taos, we met with my niece and her husband and drove down to the Rio Grande Gorge to take pictures. As we came upon a small ridge we met a man who noticed our cameras (he had a rather impressive lens on his), he smiled and said “follow me and you will be rewarded”. We looked at each other and chuckled, but we followed him over the ridge and came upon a small herd of Rocky Mountain Bighorn sheep. It turns out Mr. Wilson worked for the NM Department of Game & Fish and was in charge of keeping track of the herd, some of which had collars. The bighorn were re-introduced to New Mexico in 2006 when the Taos Pueblo released 23, in 2007 the NM Fish & Game released an additional 25. The herd is around 300 today. What an unexpected treat we experienced that day!
