Mountain passes are not for the faint hearted. You have to be alert when driving and prepared for abrupt weather changes, but it’s well worth the reward of breathtaking views. Independence Pass is one of Colorado’s prettier mountain passess with its’ expansive views and massive peaks. Much of it is tundra and above timberline.

Just like the slogan “The mountains are calling and I must go”, it applies to me as well. I get restless when I haven’t taken a drive to the mountains in a while. I gaze upon the Front Range every day, which is a whole ‘nother perspective, totally different than being in the mountains but just as beautiful.

It was a bit of a challenge for me to transition to fine art midway in my career. When you’re used to art directors giving you assignments and deadlines and then suddenly, you have a blank canvas to paint whatever you want, it was surprisingly hard to decide and commit, but I eventually settled down and thrive on the freedom of painting what moves my soul.
