Rain is a mixed media piece on Duralar drafting film involving graphite as a substrate and alcohol ink over that. I photographed Thoroughbred mare standing in her stall door. She was silhouetted perfectly against the black backdrop. The mood created by the hues and drips gave rise to the title Rain. a friend’s beautiful

After graduating from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education/Art, she began specializing in commissioned oil portraits of horses, other animals, florals and landscapes. She spent several years in the horse business working in the racing office, as well as, breeding, raising, and racing Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds which provided much of the background knowledge for her race paintings.

Raised a “city kid” in Missouri, she had the delight of visiting her uncles’ Colorado ranches every summer. The days were spent riding horses all over Cripple Creek and Victor, working cows, brook trout fishing, trapping chipmunks, and exploring old gold mines. Cheryl is an Associate Member with Distinction, American Women Artists, and an associate member of American Plains Artists. Fine Art Connoisseur, Rodeo News, Horses in Art, Grand Junction Sentinel have run feature articles on Cheryl. Her rodeo event illustrations graced the pages of the Grand National Livestock Show and Rodeo Event Guide .
