TONI JAMES J.R.

LINDA EPPINGER JOHNSON WINTER SLEIGH RIDE

When I decided to create this portrait of J.R. it was imperative I not only captured his likeness but more than that, his emotion. A seemingly brief moment of quiet contemplation. Working in pastel on a sanded surface gave me the ability to work loosely and yet, keeping it simple, add the detail I wanted to.

12” x 16” — Watercolor and Goache $1,800

The air was chilly, but the experience was so memorable for our family’s winter sleigh ride on the elk refuge. The sleigh followed others as we wound through the herd. Even though we have enjoyed the ride several times before, I am excited. I click my camera- elk, mountains, eagles on posts- so much to take in – I needed to paint this scene! I decided to paint the sleigh and horses. I wanted to emphasize the action of the horses, so I painted the background without much detail. My medium of choice is watercolor/gouache. I paint multiple transparent and opaque layers before using an airbrush for special effects. The diverse countryside where I reside inspired me to appreciate and paint or sculpt the beauty of Wyoming.

18” x 12” — Pastel $3,250
