SUSAN TEMPLE NEUMANN JOYS ALONG THE WAY

Native American women of the Great Plains played a very important role in their tribe. They were more than just mothers of the tribe’s children - they were builders, warriors, farmers and craftswomen. Their strength was essential to the survival of each tribe. Women were responsible for the care of the children, food preparation, making clothes, setting up the tipi, tanning hides plus many other skills like making tools and weapons out of animal bones. In my oil painting, Joys Along the Way , I chose to depict a treasured moment in between chores while this mom was laughing and playing with her precious son.
