PAULA HOLTZCLAW GRATITUDE

13” x 20” — Oil $3,600

A beautiful evening sunset along our Eastern coastline was the inspiration for this painting. Before reaching the sea, there is the vast expanse of the salt marshes. I am most grateful not only for its beauty, but for the valuable provisions this habitat provides. The tidal floods and mud flats supply the marsh with nutrients and food necessary for the variety of life that exists in and around the estuaries. The grasses, as they go through their own life cycles, provide a huge harvest of food for many life forms such as crustaceans, invertebrates and birds. The marsh also shelters the coast from the harsh storms that blow in from the sea. Gratitude seemed like a fitting name for such an important area often taken for granted.
