When I decided to create this portrait of J.R. it was imperative I not only captured his likeness but more than that, his emotion. A seemingly brief moment of quiet contemplation. Working in pastel on a sanded surface gave me the ability to work loosely and yet, keeping it simple, add the detail I wanted to.

Self-taught, she works predominantly in dry mediums although she has begun exploring painting mediums. Toni is a signature member of the Colored Pencil Society of America and an Associate member of Women Artists of the West.
