PATRICIA RIDGE BRADLEY THE SOUND OF FLYING GROUSE, TAOS PUEBLO, IN ASPENS

I have several friends in Taos, New Mexico, and one of them is Lyle Wright. His Taos Pueblo name is The Sound of Flying Grouse, given to him by the elders of the tribe. I greatly ad mire and respect this man who has overcome many of life’s adversities. He is a talented and successful silversmith and tireless advocate for artists and craftspersons of Taos Pueblo. He opened Lyle’s Creations, a gallery in downtown Taos to showcase their artworks, as well as his own. He is teaching his children to follow in his footsteps as silversmiths. In addition to his talents, he also a model for many nationally-known artists, and I had the opportunity to photograph him in the Taos Ski Valley forest several years ago. In my painting, he is wearing ceremonial regalia and jewelry that he made himself. I wanted to pay homage to his loyalty to the Taos Pueblo, his strength through adversity, and to his kindness of spirit.
