In my much younger days, I worked at a non parimutual racetrack named Lubbock Downs. I worked in the Racing Office but on race day I was free to roam the rails and take photos of the races. Often I Sometimes, I was able to take photos as the horses broke from the starting gate. I loved this photo and turned it into a painting because it was a wonderful close-up of the jockey and horse. I felt this painting had a story which would leave the ending up to the viewers imagination. The question was would the trailing horse actually catch up or be too far behind to win? sold folks photos of their horses coming down the racetrack during a race.

After graduating from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education/Art, she began specializing in commissioned oil portraits of horses, other animals, florals and landscapes. She spent several years in the horse business working in the racing office, as well as, breeding, raising, and racing Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds which provided much of the background knowledge for her race paintings.
