BRENDA MORGAN THE MATRIARCH

16” x 20” — Oil $2,500

Who doesn’t love a true comeback story? Hunted to near extinction, the noble American bison has made quite a comeback! Today there are 30,000 in conservation herds living in North America and nearly 400,000 are raised as livestock. However, in the 19th century, they numbered in the range of 60 million! I came across this cow and her calf at Custer State Park in South Dakota. It was a joy watching these large, lumbering beasts. They didn’t seem to notice or care that we were there (safely in our truck). At times it seemed they almost enjoyed posing for our cameras.
