CHERYL HARLEY-VOLZ THUNDERBIRD

16” x 30” — Graphite and Ink $3,500

I love alcohol ink and partnering it with graphite: wild and crazy color married to controlled values of black to white. A layer of polypropylene Yupo adhered to a birch cradle board afforded the smooth sur face I needed for the ink to ebb and flow in a semi-controlled way in the areas I mapped out in advance. I then secured a semi-transparent sheet of drafting film on top and used black pan pastels and graphite pencils to gain the detailed refinement. I like the balance between the controlled grays and blacks on top and the erratic colors underneath.
