TRISH WEND GOLDEN HOUR
You’d be surprised to hear that my priority is not to capture a likeness of the objects I paint. My props are merely tools to communicate my vision for the painting and to help me tell a particular story. Here, I was interested in the journey of light as it emerges from shadow and catches on the tiny crabapple blossoms, vase, and cloth, creating a golden glow. That is not to say I’ll just paint anything; we all love beauty, including me. So, I search out interesting props that are a delight to look at. For example, the antique snuff bottle has a distinct pattern called “Sun Bloom,” which is naturally etched into the stone. When the light hits it, it looks lit from within.
